Church School

We are blessed with our thriving church school. We are proud of our kids and their endeavors. We are thankful for our teachers. Our Board of Christian Education is dedicated to providing a quality children’s program.

Christian Education Program

We believe our children are the future of our church and we plan to continue to develop the quality Christian Education program we have started. We are overjoyed at the size and commitment of our church school. Our teenagers continue to be a source of pride as they continue to be present in all of our church activities. We plan to continue to involve them in the life of the church including church boards, fund raising and guiding them towards leadership roles.

Nursery care is provided during worship service for our youngest members and church school classes begin with Pre-K and continue through 8th grade.

Second graders attend communion class and prepare to receive their First Communion during World Communion Sunday in October.

Confirmation classes are led by the Pastor for students in the 7th & 8th grade and include field trips and study to explore their commitment to their faith.  After confirmation, our youth members participate in the Pilgrim Fellowship Youth Group.  The Youth Group enjoys several events and service projects such as caroling, an apple picking/pie baking fundraiser, and helping prep for a New Year’s Eve dinner at a local shelter.

In addition to the church school curriculum, the children participate in a philanthropy project, designed to encourage them to care for those less fortunate.  This year’s philanthropy is Family Promise of Bergen County.

The CE program holds several fun events throughout the year such as “PizzaFest”, where local pizzerias donate pies and participate in a fun pie tasting event, and an “Everything but the Bird” food drive at Thanksgiving.  Other church school events include a Christmas Pageant, Easter Egg Hunt, twice-yearly picnics and Church School Sunday – where the children plan the service, explaining what they have learned!

Church School News…

We encourage our teens to participate in boards and fund raising activities. We have two teens on the board of deacons who take their commitment very seriously. A surprising number of our lay leaders grew up in the church. We even have the granddaughter of our founder James Leach still worshiping with us at 95 years of age. Many families have multiple generations worshiping together. We are blessed with a sense of extended family while at the same time making sure newcomers don’t feel left out.

Special Thanks…

Thank you to all who participated in our PizzaFest 2013, especially those local pizzerias who donated the pizza and gift certificates.  The event was well attended and the proceeds helped support our church school programs and Family Promise.

 Church School Teachers Needed!

Volunteer to teach a church school class in September – it’s lots of fun and you won’t regret this rewarding opportunity to make a difference!  We also need people to sign up as assistant teachers, youth assistant teachers and substitutes.  If you can help, please reach out to Ann or any of our CE Board members.

Don’t worry if you’ve never taught before – all the materials and lessons are provided for you.

Youth Praise Choir

Our Youth Praise Choir has taken on a new, fun lyrical direction!  The last 15 minutes of each Sunday school session sees a mad dash to the choir room for swinging & swaying under our music director, Patricio’s, guidance.  The youth choir debut will be October 7th.
